Joseph DiZoglio: Patient Organizing for Reproductive Justice

Patient organizing is a model of healthcare activism that does not require non-profits or hospital approval. It has a long history of direct action to win concrete demands for communities. This presentation will describe a model of patient organizing and focus on potential winnable demands patients can work for in the state of Wisconsin for reproductive justice.

Biography: Joey DiZoglio (pronounced dee-ZOL-ee-o) is a practicing gynecologist and community organizer. He was a City Year Americorps member in Dallas, Texas then attended Brown University’s medical school where he researched the history of racism and gynecology in Rhode Island and organized for an anti-racist curriculum. In Hartford, Connecticut he completed his medical training and worked as a tenant organizer with Connecticut’s chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). He is currently the Labor Chair of the Madison Area DSA and writes Marxist-themed science fiction and fantasy stories
