Tom Kastle
Warch Campus CenterSomerset Room
Decades ago, Tom Kastle designed a career for himself as a maritime music performer and sailor. He traveled the world, collecting and performing songs and stories as well as captaining sailing ships on the Great Lakes.
These days, Tom's passions are even more diverse and include theatrical projects ranging from the titular role in Henry IV to a political pundit in God Help Us! with the legendary Ed Asner; film projects like Francisco Torres’ Delight in the Mountain with Richard Riehle and Tom Wopat; and television where he hosted a short documentary that was nominated for an Emmy Award. Add in musical director and composer credits, voice overs, a role in an opera, and a series of live radio plays and you have an artist living a vivid life, indeed!
In addition to opening the Festival with his music, Tom will perform again at 7:00pm before introducing Garrison Keillor.

The Raging Grannies
Warch Campus CenterSomerset Room
The Raging Grannies of Madison began as a project of the Madison chapter of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), first singing to the crowds of Madison WI anti-war protesters in the fall of 2003.
We sing out for peace, economic & social justice, and the environment. The Grannies "have songs, will travel" anywhere in the state. We sing wherever we are invited -- and sometimes where we're not! (We've sung about single payer health care at the offices of our members of Congress, at a military recruiting event at a local high school, and show up regularly at the Farmer's Market on the Capitol Square.)
We are a "dis-organization" without formal leadership. Each Granny does what she can, and we make decisions by consensus. As it says on the Raging Grannies International website at http://raginggrannies.org/, "We are totally non-violent, believe in only peaceful protest (with lots of laughter), work for the 'many not the few' … and see our work as the spreading green branches of a great tree, rising up to provide shelter and nourishment for those who will come after us." That's true -- but we Grannies also want to have fun, refuse to be silenced, and will sing out against those things that harm the planet we will leave to our grandkids.
