Recovering Liberalism as a Fighting Ethos

Keynote Speaker

Patrick Fessenbecker

BIO:

Patrick Fessenbecker is a teaching faculty member of the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In addition to his scholarly work, in the wake of the 2024 election, he helped found and lead an Indivisible chapter in Monona. He will speak about the possibilities in our moment for a rebirth of morally engaged liberalism - not a movement that passively resigns itself to the paralysis of hearing all sides before deciding to do another environmental law review, but a collective commitment to passionately standing up for the weakest among us and fiercely opposing those who would oppress them.

How Not to Feel Powerless

Keynote Speaker

Willem Hansen

BIO:

I graduated from Sun Prairie East High School in June and am currently a freshman at UW-Milwaukee. My mother is a longtime activist against gun violence, and I have strong feelings on topics such as climate change, AI, and the current US administration. I delivered a speech at my high school graduation on overcoming the feeling of powerlessness that has been thrust upon us by constant access to information, which is a message I want to continue relaying.
